Interns with USA for UNHCR will gain valuable experience working with a non-governmental organization, while learning about the important work of the UN Refugee Agency. Specifically, interns will assist with day-to-day research, programmatic and administrative tasks.
Under the supervision of the Development Assistant, interns will:
- Answer information requests from the general public. This will require use of USA for UNHCR’s database and in-house resources.
- Assist in the area of development and programming. This includes various short and long-term research projects, updating UNHCR country-specific activity reports, and assisting in the development of weekly donor briefings
- Represent USA for UNHCR at various meetings and forums throughout Washington, D.C., related to current issues affecting refugees and UNHCR.
- Assist with on-going content changes and maintenance of USA for UNHCR's website. This involves writing and uploading weekly UNHCR web stories and daily refugee related news.
- Assist in the organization of meetings and media events for USA for UNHCR
- Assist with clerical tasks such as answering phone calls, major donor mailings and the preparation of informational packets for the education/fundraising campaigns
Graduate or undergraduate students with an interest in international affairs and refugee issues are preferred. Excellent command of English and good written and oral communication skills are essential. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and a flair for organization is desirable.
Internship is unpaid.
